Do I actually need a sump pump if my home hasn’t flooded before?
It depends on the elevation of the specific low point the pump is protecting, whether that’s a below-grade area, an equipment pad, or a section of yard that drains poorly toward the house. In South Florida generally, and in a city like Weston with an extensive lake and canal network keeping the water table high, heavy rain events can raise groundwater faster than a lightly used floor drain or french drain can move it on its own, which is exactly the gap a sump pump fills.
